The Dirty Kitchen

There are habits we roll our eyes at growing up, and others we eventually grow into. As a child, I remember watching my parents—no matter how long the day had been or how tired they were—refuse to go to bed with a dirty kitchen. I never understood it. For me, if it was late, the mess could wait. That was tomorrow’s problem.

But this week, as we packed for vacation, something stopped me. I looked around and noticed that, almost instinctively, I had made sure the kitchen was spotless before we walked out the door. And then it hit me: I do this every time we leave for a trip.Without fail.

Every morning, I wake up to a clean kitchen. Not because I’ve changed completely, but because my husband—cleans it each night after I’ve already shut off the lights. Somehow, without me even noticing, I’ve inherited the same habit I once found so unnecessary. And even more quietly, love has shaped it into something we do for each other.

Funny how we grow—sometimes without even realizing it.

Weekly Menu - 28 April

Monday

School Lunch: Cheese & Cucumber Sandwiches

Dinner: Sausages & White (Baked) Beans

Tips for this idea:

Every once in a while , I add beans to the menu. This is super easy and usually can be prepared in under 20 minutes by simply cooking your sausages and then once cooked add the baked beans with extra tomato if you like a bit more gravy.

Tuesday:

School Lunch: Chicken Mayo Pancakes

Dinner: One Pot Mexican Chicken and Rice

Tips for this idea:

This is a new recipe I will try this week , it’s basically a spicy rice with beans , corn, cilantro and also fresh vegetables. If you vegan or vegetarian you can always scrap the chicken and add some extra beans.

Wednesday:

School Lunch: Waffles

Dinner: Mac and Cheese

Tips for this idea:

This is a a great mid week recipe. It’s super easy to make. For those who are completely vegan you can substitute vegetables and nuts to create a delicious sauce that does not contain any milk or cream.

Thursday:

School Lunch: Pizza Rolls

Dinner: Pumpkin / Butternut Soup

Tips for this idea:

Pumpkin soup is super easy. I have saved a recipe that you can follow for a delicious meal.

Friday:

School Lunch: Nuggets

Dinner: Family Pizza Night

Tips for this idea:

I usually keep frozen pizza bases in the fridge , this makes it super easy to take an easy night off.

Saturday:

Lunch: Kapsalon with Rolls

Dinner: Dagwoods

Tips for this idea:

Dagwood’s are an anything goes meal. It’s nice because it can be changed to the preferences of the individual people.

Sunday:

Supper: Chicken Alfredo Lasagna

Tips for this idea:

This is a nice filling meal for a Sunday afternoon. For me it requires less work than the traditional lasagna but tastes equally amazing. You can always substitute the chickpeas in for chicken or even shredded Mushrooms.
