"Sometimes the best adventures come from making quick decisions and trusting that the universe has your back!"

Considering the number of people who have left South Africa before, our decision didn't really seem out of this world.

No matter how much you tell yourself about personal agility, making a change or even a slight shift requires a great deal of faith. Reflecting back on the fact that it’s been two years since we arrived in the Netherlands, it feels like yesterday that I thought I would turn to dust when boarding a plane to another country.

It can be true that sometimes our dreams are standing right in front of us, we just don’t have the courage to choose them.

So here’s the truth, most of us cannot financially back bad decisions so we overthink every small detail. We fill our thoughts with the obvious questions like:

  • What if it doesn’t work out?

  • What if I’m back here with no job and no plan?

  • What if I hate it and have to repay all the allowances?

These are important questions, I have no doubt about that. When we moved , it was not ideal. I wish that more people were open or at least honest enough to say seeing your future salary in your home country and checking house prices are not even the tip of the iceberg. The cost of living really humbles you almost instantly.

Once we were knee deep in our new adventure we realized that this may not be a great idea. Most people say after the first year the honeymoon phase is over but for us it really sucked all up front. We took our kids out of school, with no true plan on schooling in the Netherlands and because of the war, the housing crisis and the extreme gas prices all problems seemed to hit us like an avalanche. This coupled with the fact that we were a single income family.

After two months of intense complications and annoyance everything fell into place. In almost a single day, the kids were in school, my husband found a job and we found a more permanent rental, the government created rebates to combat the electricity costs and day by day you evolve and you learn and you grow! I am so glad and grateful that we did not throw in the towel in the first few weeks.

This is a typical example of the timing is never right, which leads me to believe that the most important thing we can do is make moves in faith that it will all work out in the end.

Life is about making radical decisions and then backing them. I don’t think it’s anything more or anything less.

If you take nothing else from my blog or my journey, all you need to know is nobody knows where to start or how to go or where to go or when you are going to make a break through! We all kind of figure it out.

Till next time. ♥️
